Africa Tourism Partners say the aim of Africa Tourism Leadership Awards is to recognise leadership, change-makers, excellence and innovation in Africa’s tourism sector. Nominations for the first-ever Africa Tourism Leadership Awards (ATLA) are open till July 30, 2018.

Africa Tourism Partners (ATP), that is organising the event that is scheduled for August 31, 2018 in the Ghanaian capital, Accra through its Africa Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF), say the all-Africa ATLA seek to recognise leadership, change-makers, excellence and innovation in Africa’s tourism sector.

The Awards categories are:

  • Leading in Progressive Policies’ Award
  • Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award
  • Women in Leadership Award
  • Most Innovative Business Tourism Destination Award
  • Outstanding Accommodation Facility / Group Award
  • Outstanding Tourism Transportation Award
  • Outstanding Africa Tourism Media Award, and
  • Championing Sustainability Award.

Marina Novelli, Professor of Tourism and International Development and Academic Lead for the Responsible Futures Agenda at the University of Brighton in Britain.The nomination form, that is available at tourismleadershipforum.africa or may be requested from nozipho@africatourismpartners.com, is to be filled in and e-mailed to nozipho@africatourismpartners.com by no later than July 30, 2018.

“All nominees must be engaged in outstanding tourism work that has measurable socio-economic impact on the ground and enhances the value of ‘Brand Africa.’ Nominations should be supported by a web and/or social media presence links. All submissions will need to be focused on not more than five (5) key points that will demonstrate leadership,” says Marina Novelli, Professor of Tourism and International Development and Academic Lead for the Responsible Futures Agenda at the University of Brighton in Britain.

ATP say judges of ATLA shall be drawn from among renowned African and global tourism experts including academics and audited by Grant Thornton.

Africa Tourism Leadership Awards are organised through Africa Tourism Leadership Forum.The co-Chair persons of the Committee of judges are Judy Kepher-Gona, Executive Director of Sustainable Travel and Tourism Agenda in Kenya and Marina Novelli, Professor of Tourism and International Development and Academic Lead for the Responsible Futures Agenda at the University of Brighton in Britain.

“We invite nominations from countries, tourist destinations, organizations, individuals, entrepreneurs and/or small enterprises, with these attributes to either self-nominate or be nominated by others for these awards,” says Judy Kepher-Gona.
