KMS, that says the aims of the Affordable Art Show are to raise funds for supporting the ‘National Museums of Kenya (NMK) and to showcase the diversity and richness of the creativity of Kenyan artists with a range of experience’, says all art ‘submissions will be scrutinised by an experienced panel for their artistic merit and to ensure they satisfy our other criteria’.
So what other criteria should artists bear in mind before submitting their work to KMS?
- Each piece in any medium must be limited in size to a maximum of 100cm x 100cm to facilitate buyers carrying their purchases home by car
- The work must be created in 2019
- All paintings must be framed/stretched and ready for exhibiting, preferably with no glass. All fragile 3-dimensional pieces must be submitted in protective packaging
- Artists must price their work reasonably and affordably, at a maximum of Sh99,999.

KMS, that says it ‘will retain 30% of the price for cash sales and 35% for credit card sales per piece sold’, says its panel shall approve the prices of the art pieces on exhibition ‘to increase the likelihood’ of it selling.
KMS requests any artist interested in the art show to confirm their intention to participate as soon as possible by e-mailing their name, phone and e-mail contacts and stating the type of work they will submit to info@kenyamuseumsociety.org.
“The Affordable Art Show will take place in the Courtyard behind the Louis Leakey Auditorium, opening on Friday evening, 25 October 2019 at 6pm,” a statement signed by Marla Stone, Art Show Coordinator of KMS and Lydia Gatundu Galavu
Art Curator of NMK, says. “The show will continue on 26 – 27 October from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.”
KMS, that says the Affordable Art Show ‘has had increased success each of the last 6 years’, says 40% of the pieces exhibited in 2018 were sold.
