Cross-Country has been added to an endurance sports event scheduled for September 3, 2017 in the Kericho tea-growing area of western Kenya.
Team Tri Fit, the organisers of the Kericho Triathlon and Duathlon Challenge say it has introduced cross-country as part of its “mission in getting more people into recreational and competitive sports while allowing them the opportunity to participate in one of the triathlon disciplines at our events. This will give the runners the opportunity to interact and be inspired by the other athletes competing in the triathlon and duathlon.”
To cover the 19.5 KM Cross-Country Trail Run that has been designed as a 6.5KM loop around the lush green landscape of Chesumot Estate, runners have to go around it three times.
While the Triathlon part of the event that is now known as 2nd Kericho Triathlon, Duathlon and X-Country Challenge covers a 750m swim in an open fresh water dam; a 6.5KM cycling loop; and a 1KM run, Duathlon covers running and cycling without swimming.
The organisers describe the running part as being the easiest segment of the race, saying “all participants should expect an exhilarating ride around the estate” as the terrain has “steady climbs, a few flats and lovely drops.”
Saying the 2nd Kericho Triathlon, Duathlon and X-Country Challenge promises a great challenge to all who attend it as as it has events for individuals, teams of three and children, Team Tri Fit says accommodation is available on the estate with a fully-fledged camp site next to the dam with all basic amenities such as showers and toilets. Other options in Kericho town include Taidys Hotel, Sunshine Hotel and others that range from Sh1500 to Sh4350 for bed and breakfast.
The event is set to start at 8:00 AM with a final briefing to all participants followed by the flagging off of the triathlon and duathlon, children’s event and finally the x-country trail run, it is recommended.
All participants and not just ‘podium finishers’, the organisers say, “will get bespoke medals, customized finishers t-shirts and a lot more from their partners: Safaricom Limited, Finis Kenya, 5 Stars and Turtle Bay Resort Watamu.
